4th Regional Inter-tertiary Mathematics Quiz Bee


 

With the aim of building a competitive mathematics culture among college students, the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines - Iloilo Chapter (MTAP-IC), Inc. will hold the 4th Regional Inter-tertiary Mathematics Quiz Bee on December 6, 2013, Friday, 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM at Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iznart Street, Iloilo City.

 

In connection to this, we would like to invite your school to participate in the said competition. Each school could send at most three contestants and one official coach. A registration fee of one thousand five hundred pesos (Php1, 500.00) will be collected from each participating school to cover snacks, certificates, judges’ token, venue and prizes. An amount of Php250.00 will be collected from each additional student or teacher who would like to register. Registration starts at 11:00 AM.

MECHANICS, RULES & GUIDELINES
 
 
A. CONTESTANTS
1.     This is an individual contest. Each school will send a maximum of three (3) contestants.
2.     Contestants should be bonafide students of the school they are representing.
3.     Only one (1) official coach is allowed for each participating school.
 
 
B. COVERAGE OF THE QUIZ
          The questions included in the quiz will cover topics on
1.     Algebra
2.     Trigonometry
3.     Geometry
4.     General Education Mathematics
5.     Analytic Geometry
6.     Number Theory
7.     Business Mathematics
8.     Statistics and Probability
9.     Calculus
10. History of Mathematics
 
 
C. QUESTIONS
1.     There will be ten (10) questions for each round, to wit: easy, average, and difficult with 1, 3, and 5 points, respectively.
2.     Questions may be in a form of multiple-choice, fill-in the blanks, or problem solving.
3.     The quiz master will read each question twice.
4.     Each question will be projected on the wide screen with an indicated time clock.
5.     After the time limit, a buzzer will sound. Contestants should stop writing and they should show their answers by raising their flash cards.
 
 
D. TIE BREAK
1.     In case of tie, a tie-breaker question will be given.
2.     The contestant who can give the correct answer first will be declared the winner.
 
 
E. OBJECTIONS
1.     The duly register contestants are the only persons authorized to raise a protest.
2.     All protests should be referred to the board of judges immediately before the quiz master reads the next question.
3.     The decision of the judges regarding the objection is final and irrevocable.
 
 
F. PRIZES
1.     The three (3) contestants with the highest accumulated scores from the three (3) rounds will be declared Champion, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up, respectively. Each of them will receive cash prize, certificate of recognition, and custom-made MTAP-IC trophy.
2.     Cash prizes of Php 4 000, Php 3 000, and Php 2 000 will be awarded to the champion, second placer, and third placer, respectively. The 4th up to the 10th placers will also receive certificates of recognition.
3.     Certificate of participation will be given to each participating school, coach, and contestant.
 
G. TIME/PROGRAM OUTLINE
1.     The time for registration and the time to start the quiz will be strictly followed as indicated in the programme. Please refer to the outline below:

12:30-1:00 PM                  Program Proper (Invocation, National Anthem, Words of Welcome, Presentation of Judges and Contestants, and Reading of the Mechanics of the Quiz)
                    1:00-3:30 PM                    Contest Proper
